Terms of service.
Payment and Cancellation
This studio has a minimum order fee of £100.. Work added to an order after project completion will be considered a new job and is again subject to the minimum order amount.
For work to commence full payment up front is required unless project cost is greater than £500, where a 50% non-refundable deposit will be accepted. The rest of the balance will be due immediately upon completion of the project, before delivery of the finished goods. If the scope of the order changes after the deposit has been paid, then the balance due will be adjusted accordingly.
If you cancel an order after full payment has been accepted, it is non refundable if work has commenced. If work has not commenced payment will be refunded minus the £100 minimum order fee.
If you cancel an order after initial 50% deposit is accepted, the deposit is non-refundable. You are also responsible for paying for any work already completed which exceeds the deposit amount.
Rush orders (projects requiring completion within a fortnight) incur an additional 50% charge. Expedited shipping rates may also apply.
By transferring payment you are agreeing to enter a contract with conditions of work as outlined in email correspondence and terms of service.
No refunds are given after completion of the project.
Submission of Text and Address Lists
All text must be submitted exactly as they should be produced in calligraphy. This includes formal titles, capitalisation, abbreviations and punctuation.
Proofread and finalise all text before submitting. Any changes or additions should be emailed immediately as a separate document. If redos are required based on the new document, they will be charged as additional items.
Any redo required because of typographical errors on the part of The Coastal Pen Calligraphy Studio will be done immediately at no extra cost, and shipped at the studios expense
Guest list and address lists must be typed and numbered and submitted in an editable format. When submitting a Word document, write addresses in a stacked format with line breaks, just as they would be on envelopes. If submitting a spreadsheet, each line of the address must be in its own column. Spreadsheets with extra columns of information that are not relevant to the immediate project will not be accepted.
This Calligraphy Studio will not reproduce swear words, lewd or disrespectful words.
Materials
If clients are providing materials for their project a 20% client-provided materials allowance is required for envelope orders, place or escort cards. For example, an order for 100 addressed envelopes requires that 120 envelopes are provided. Any unused items will be returned to the client on completion of the project.
Paper type must be established before an order is accepted. Porous, glossy and metallic paper surfaces can be problematic for calligraphy, hence the need for pre- approval.
I am happy to provide advice about paper types at no extra charge.
Any paper products being provided by the client for their project must be delivered at the clients expense to the studio, prior to the start date of the project.
You do not need to provide paper for calligraphic artwork projects. High quality 100% cotton, acid free, hot press watercolour paper will be used for work of this nature. However if you wish the project to be on a specific type of paper this can be discussed and priced within the drafting process.
Copyright
Copyright is automatically assigned at the completion of the project. You as the client own the final physical elements of the project.
The studio reserves the right to display your project as part of its portfolio and to write about it in various places such as social media, blogs or articles as thought proper by The Coastal Pen Calligraphy Studio.
All calligraphy, designs and artwork created by The Coastal Pen remains the sole property of The Coastal Pen Calligraphy Studio, this means the studio owns the copyrights for all artwork, calligraphy and designs in the project. You as the client own the final physical products sent to you but not the concepts or designs that were used to create them.
Delivery
You will be charged postage and packaging fees if pick up from the Studio or suitable location cannot be arranged.
Completed orders are posted using Royal Mail Special Delivery Service. International delivery is also available.
Total postage costs will be clearly labelled in the invoice and once posted the tracking number will be emailed to you.
Calligraphy
The beauty of calligraphy is that each letter and word are hand drawn and each character written will have its own charm. Therefore there may be slight variations between words and letters, as it is impossible for the human hand to make exact replicas each time it produces a letter. This handwritten appearance is what gives the piece elegance and beauty and is unlike the stark uniformity of a computer font. Please have this in mind when ordering hand calligraphy. Each word, envelope or place card, etc. is treated as an individual piece of art.
The Coastal Pen seeks to create high quality calligraphic work, creating pieces you are proud to own. The studio will consult, draft and take on board your feedback about projects, working with you to create beautiful calligraphy pieces that will be treasured.
For calligraphic artwork included in the price of your piece is 1 rough pencil draft, the drafting process can continue further if you require further additions or tweaks but these are the charged at The Coastal Pen hourly rate of £30/hr.
All quotes and policies above are for personal projects only. For work intended for branding or commercial purposes different policies and price plans apply. Please enquire for further information.
